ABOUT BRELONOTE

The melanocortin agonist PT-141

Bremelanotide (PT-141) is a cyclic heptapeptide analogue of α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone, developed from the earlier analogue Melanotan II. It acts as an agonist at melanocortin receptors, including the MC4 receptor expressed in the central nervous system.

Unlike agents that act on the vasculature, bremelanotide engages central melanocortin pathways — the basis of its distinct pharmacology in the published literature. Brelonote™ supplies bremelanotide as a defined, batch-documented reference material with identity and purity verified on every lot.

RESEARCH BACKGROUND

A peptide with phase 3 evidence

Bremelanotide was evaluated in the RECONNECT programme — two double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled phase 3 trials in 1,267 premenopausal women with hypoactive sexual desire disorder. Both trials met their co-primary endpoints, with significant improvements in desire and reductions in associated distress, supporting US regulatory approval in 2019.

Beyond that programme, PT-141 has an extensive earlier literature: it was first studied intranasally in erectile dysfunction, and remains a reference compound for probing central melanocortin signalling in appetite, energy homeostasis and sexual function research.
